Rain Nowcast &
Precipitation Alerts
StormCast uses NOAA radar data to predict when rain will arrive at or clear from your exact location — and pushes a notification so you know before the first drop falls.
How It Works
Radar Analysis
StormCast continuously monitors NOAA MRMS radar data — the same high-resolution radar the NWS uses. It tracks precipitation cells and their movement vectors in real time.
Path Projection
Using wind data and radar echo movement, StormCast projects where precipitation will be in the next 15–60 minutes. When rain is on a collision course with your location, it fires.
Push Notification
You get a notification like "Rain arriving in ~10 minutes" with a radar snapshot showing the approaching precipitation. When it clears, you get "Rain clearing" so you know when it's safe to head out.
Who Uses Rain Nowcast
Commuters
Know whether to grab an umbrella before you walk to the car, or if you'll make it home dry.
Outdoor Workers
Construction, landscaping, painting — trades that can't work in rain. A 15-minute heads-up means you can cover materials or wrap up a pour.
Event Planners
Weddings, cookouts, yard sales, kids' birthday parties. Know exactly when rain will hit so you can move things under cover at the right moment.
Runners & Cyclists
Plan your route around the rain. The "clearing" notification tells you when the window opens back up.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a rain nowcast?
A short-term precipitation forecast for the next 60 minutes based on current NOAA radar. Unlike traditional forecasts, nowcasting uses real-time radar to predict exactly when rain will arrive at your specific location.
How does StormCast predict when rain will start?
It analyzes NOAA MRMS radar data and wind vectors to project where precipitation is heading. When radar shows rain approaching, you get a notification typically 10–15 minutes before it arrives.
Will it notify me when rain stops?
Yes. StormCast sends both "rain arriving" and "rain clearing" notifications so you know when it's safe to head back outside.
Is it free?
Yes. Rain nowcast is included free in StormCast alongside all other weather features.
Know When Rain Is Coming
Radar-based precipitation nowcast — 10–15 minutes of warning before the first drop.
