Is StormCast free?
Yes. StormCast is free to download on Android and Windows. It shows ads to pay the bills, and the severe weather alerts will always stay free. No subscription is needed.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use StormCast without signing in. An account is optional and just backs up your saved places so they follow you to a new phone or your PC.
Will I get alerts when my phone is locked or the app is closed?
Yes. Alerts arrive as notifications even when your screen is off and the app is closed, as long as your phone is online. For the fastest alerts, open Android Settings, then Apps, StormCast, Battery, and choose Unrestricted.
Will it drain my battery?
No. StormCast is built to be easy on your battery. Your phone stays asleep until there's actually something to tell you.
Can I watch more than one place?
Yes. Save your home, work, school, or family members' towns, and you'll get alerts for each one, along with alerts for wherever you are right now.
Can I get an alert when my river rises?
Yes. Save any river gauge in the app and pick the water level that matters to you. Your phone goes off when the river gets there.
How is it different from my phone's weather app?

Not yet. StormCast is available on Android (version 8.0 or newer) and Windows 10 and 11. An iPhone version is on the list.
