What Floods at Each Level
64 ft
This is the elevation of the official plan flood for Lockington Dam. Water would begin passing over the emergency spillway at this elevation. The dam itself would not overtop until 78 feet. While the dam still provides protection, major flooding occurs in sections of Piqua, mainly areas south and east of Route 36 and Roosevelt Avenue.
62 ft
This is the emergency spillway elevation of the dam. This elevation far exceeds the flood of record and is within two feet of the official planned flood control for Lockington Dam.
59 ft
Moderate flooding occurs both within the upstream area behind Lockington, as well as downstream along Loramie Creek and portions of the upper Great Miami River. Many roads upstream of the dam along Loramie Creek in Washington and Loramie Townships are flooded. The dam protects areas downstream of Lockington to a level of 64 feet.
39 ft
While most flooding is contained within the designated Lockington storage area, rises along Loramie Creek will impact portions of Patterson-Halpin Road, Loramie-Washington Road and Houston Road.
35 ft
While much of the flooding along Loramie Creek is contained within the planned lake area, minor flooding continues along Patterson-Halpin Road and Houston Road.
30 ft
Minor flooding occurs on Patterson-Halpin Road near Houston.
