What Floods at Each Level

20.3 ft

Widespread and devastating flooding occurred throughout Chenango Bridge, Port Crane, Dickinson and northern sections of the City of Binghamton along the Chenango River. Interstate 81 would become impassable between Exits 5 and 6.

Widespread and catastrophic flooding increases in homes and businesses on Chenango Bridge Road, River Road, and Upper Front Street down to the Binghamton flood wall protection area.

Flood of Sepember 2011. Widespread severe flooding of homes and businesses from the Route 79 bridge at Chenango Forks to the City of Binghamton confluence. Parts of Interstate 88 between Exits 1 and 2 become flooded and impassable. Upper Front Street and Route 11 closed due to flooding.

Severe flooding expands as backwater along Castle Creek floods low spots of the Northgate and Nimmonsburg plazas on Upper Front Street. Backwater flooding also spreads across Front Street near Broome Community College from the Fairfield Inn to Forest Hills Boulevard. Front Street/Route 11 closed in many areas.

Major flood stage. Widespread inundation in the Town of Chenango Broad Acres area. Flooding expands across carmichael and Bishop Roads to Upper Front Street/Route 12. Chenango Ice Rink floods. River Road between Airport and Teeburn Boulevard floods.

Flood of March 1964. Flooding of up to 100 homes occurred in the Broad Acres area affecting Edwards Lane, Merrill Road, Bishop Road and Jacobs Highway.

Moderate flood stage. Flood of March 1979. Approximately 25 homes in the Broad Acres area experienced basement to first floor flooding, including Edwards Lane, Jacobs Highway, Carmichael Road, Bishop Road and Peninsula Drive. Boland Pond marsh is inundated and Thomas Creek backs up flooding portions of Woodland Road and businesses on the north side of Route 12a. Fallon Road cut off by flood water.

Flood of December 1983. About 15 homes had flooded basements on Edwards Lane and Jacobs Highway in the Broad Acres area. A few homes on Cards Road in Chenango Forks also flooded.

The Chenango Bridge golf course and the Chenango Bridge Sports park become inundated. Otsiningo and Port Dickinson Parks become inundated. Flood waters approach Mcgirks Tavern.
